CAMPUS RESOURCES
Learning Resources
Every semester, the schedule for the tutoring lab is released by the Vice President of Academic Affairs and is readily accessible to students via the MyAllen portal. The lab extends a wide array of services designed to support students in various academic areas. These services include guidance in reading and study techniques, time management coaching, test preparation, peer tutoring, and specialized academic assistance for students with unique needs. Additionally, the lab features a fully-equipped writing center that offers computer access, valuable writing resources, and personalized tutoring sessions, as well as workshops to enhance writing skills. Students can also find subject-specific tutoring in areas like Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Computer and Information Science, and Modern Foreign Languages. Our goal is to offer comprehensive support services that address the diverse academic needs of our student population, empowering them to excel in their studies and beyond.
Planning a Career
The Office of Counseling and Placement serves as a vital resource for students across all academic classifications, aiming to guide them in achieving their career aspirations. We assist students in clarifying their career goals, recognizing their unique skills and interests, and making well-informed decisions about their professional paths. Students are urged to engage with our staff beginning from their first year at Allen University to benefit fully from our services. We offer a range of activities tailored to enhance vital skills such as networking, resume crafting, and interview preparation. These opportunities not only present various career options but also equip students for life beyond their time at Allen University. Furthermore, our office actively promotes enrollment in graduate and professional schools among Allen students. We're also dedicated to fostering relationships with other educational institutions and programs that show interest in our graduates. Through these initiatives, we aim to provide a well-rounded support system that prepares our students for a successful future.
Health Services
The Office of Health Services at Allen University is devoted to fostering a culture of well-being and health consciousness among students. Our primary objective is to equip students with vital health information and direct them to qualified healthcare professionals for further assistance when needed. To further our educational goals, we offer an array of resources designed for student engagement. These include informative pamphlets, videos, and periodicals, as well as a selection of books on various health topics. Additionally, we periodically host seminars and workshops that focus on prevalent health concerns that could impact the student body. These programs aim to provide students with knowledge and strategies to make informed health decisions. It is essential to understand that while we strive to offer robust support, the Office of Health Services should not be considered a substitute for a medical facility due to the limitations in our supplies, equipment, and availability of healthcare providers. Should you experience an illness necessitating medical care, we strongly recommend reaching out to our office for referral guidance. In cases of severe or life-threatening conditions—such as disrupted breathing, seizures, extensive bleeding, or unconsciousness—immediate emergency services should be contacted without delay. Allen University is committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle among its student community. We believe that fostering a value system centered on health maintenance not only benefits you during your time on campus but also sets a positive precedent for your future, including your professional life. Our mission goes beyond immediate care and aims to prepare you for a lifetime of well-being.
Counseling Services
At Allen University, the Counseling Services department operates under the fundamental belief that a student's emotional and personal well-being plays a crucial role in shaping a comprehensive liberal arts education. We understand that your emotional drive often fuels your ability to positively impact your community and succeed academically. Our Counseling Services are designed to offer timely and effective support when emotional challenges become a barrier to your academic achievements. We provide a range of services tailored to meet your unique needs, including confidential consultations, therapeutic interventions, and targeted referrals when necessary. Additionally, our center offers informational resources and referral services as part of our broader outreach efforts to assist you when required. We strive to create a welcoming environment that encourages open dialogue and promotes emotional health, not just as an addendum to your academic life but as an integral element of your overall educational experience. With this holistic approach, we aim to empower you to surmount challenges and flourish both in your academic endeavors and personal life.
Disability Services
The mission of Disability Services at Allen University is to ensure equitable access to all aspects of campus life. Overseen by both the Academic Affairs and Student Life departments, Disability Services is dedicated to facilitating accommodations and creating an inclusive environment that allows every student to fully participate in the educational experience. We are committed to continuously assessing and improving the range and effectiveness of services provided, ensuring that they align with best practices and meet the evolving needs of our diverse student body. Through collaborative management and ongoing evaluation, Disability Services strives to remove barriers and open doors to educational success for all students. If a student has a disability and would like to be provided reasonable accommodations, the student must submit supporting IEP documentation during the first two weeks of the semester. This timely submission ensures that appropriate and reasonable accommodations can be arranged to support their academic journey. For disability services, students should contact Dr. Joseph Ray, Director of Counseling & Placement, or click here.
